From problem to result

  1. Problem

Gas quality issues, aging infrastructure, MIC corrosion, OPEX exposure, downtime and regulatory uncertainty.

  2. Why

Treatment and testing are sporadic, labor-intensive and speculative.

  3. Solution

Continuous, verifiable and automated treatment and testing.

  4. How

The trusted Cognituv process: Identify · Apply · Verify™.

  5. Result

Energy reliability, asset integrity, product security, less O&M, uptime, decarbonization and regulatory confidence.

  1. RNG upgrading and pipeline injection

Bacterial carryover can drive pipeline corrosion (MIC) and interconnect compliance issues.

  2. Underground gas storage

Microbes can sour the gas with H₂S and corrode storage wells and piping.

  3. Transmission pipelines and compressor stations

Sulfate-reducing and acid-producing bacteria (SRB and APB) can cause internal corrosion and leaks.

  4. Pipeline gate and interconnect stations

Microbial contamination at an interconnect can undermine gas quality and safety downstream.

  5. Downstream city distribution

Biofilm pockets in low-velocity mains can add to leak risk.

The challenge

Why it matters.

  • Natural gas supplies about a third of the energy the U.S. uses, so reliability and cost stability depend on consistent, compliant gas quality.
  • Today’s methods rely on episodic checks and biocide dosing, which leave blind spots between samples.
  • Biofilms drive microbially influenced corrosion (MIC): asset degradation, off-spec gas risk, and safety and compliance exposure.

Hygiene automation

Integrated on-pipe control and proof.

    Premium PolisherPatent pending

Inline UV-C treatment engineered for pipeline environments, designed for ≥ 6-log (99.9999%) microbial reduction without chemicals.* An explosion-proof stainless steel vessel with high-output UV-C lamps treats the full stream continuously, delivered skid-mounted and tied into plant PLC and SCADA.

    * Design target. The Premium Polisher is designed to deliver a UV-C dose of at least 100 mJ/cm² at the end of lamp life. Published doses for comparison: under 20 mJ/cm² for 3-log inactivation of vegetative bacteria, and 78 to 81 mJ/cm² for 4-log inactivation of Bacillus subtilis spores, a standard UV-resistant reference organism. UV-C at 254 nm has inactivated the sulfate-reducing bacterium Desulfovibrio vulgaris. Sources

Performance data based on design basis and published literature under the conditions cited; actual results vary with gas composition, UV transmittance, flow and maintenance.

Identify · Apply · Verify™

How a PGS project runs.

  1. Identify

Prime M&V and an engineering review set the baseline: microbial load, gas composition, flow, pressure and compliance gaps.

  2. Apply

A Premium Polisher engineered to that stream’s composition, pressure and flow, delivered as a skid that ties into your controls.

  3. Verify

Cognituv Connect logs treatment, test results and alarms continuously, with audit-ready records.

Outcomes

What operators get.

  • Around-the-clock treatment with automated control and documented verification.
  • Designed to extend infrastructure life by keeping MIC drivers in check at the source.
  • Less reliance on intermittent testing and batch biocides, measured against a baseline agreed for your site.
  • Regulator-ready data for integrity management and performance reporting.

Who we work with

  • RNG producers

Upgrading plants and pipeline injection, where gas has to meet the interconnect’s quality requirements.

  • Pipeline and midstream operators

Transmission lines, compressor stations and underground storage, where MIC threatens asset integrity.

  • Gas utilities

Interconnect and gas-quality engineers who need a continuous, documented record.

  • EPC and integration partners

Engineering firms and integrators building treatment and verification into gas projects.
