The basic principle behind our technology is that the UV-C light has the needed energy to deactivate the microorganisms while the titanium dioxide (PCOR™) acts as a catalyst to break down other pollutants. The UV-C light used in our air purifiers has a wavelength of 254 nanometers, which is effective at destroying microorganisms. As air passes through the device, it is exposed to the UV-C light, which breaks down the DNA of the microorganisms, rendering them harmless. Our signature PCOR™ technology with Titanium dioxide is a photocatalyst, which means that when it is exposed to UV light, it can break down pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odors. The process by which this happens is called photocatalysis, and it involves the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that break down the pollutants into harmless byproducts.
UV-C air purifiers can be effective at removing certain types of harmful bacteria and viruses from the air, but they may not be as effective at removing odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
UV-C light can help to kill or deactivate many types of bacteria and viruses, including those that cause illnesses such as the flu, colds, and COVID-19. However, some types of odors and VOCs are caused by chemical compounds that may not be affected by UV-C light.
To effectively remove odors and VOCs from the air, Cognituv’s air purifiers utilize PCOR™ technology that utilizes Titanium Dioxide and can absorb or break down the chemical compounds that cause odors and VOCs, helping to improve indoor air quality.
